Description

Cambodian Temple rubbing purchased in 1997 in Siem Reap, Cambodia, home to the ancient temples of Angkor Wat.

Rice paper is placed on a carved stone relief of a temple wall and brushed with water until the paper adheres and molds itself to the wall, clearly displaying the carvings beneath. The artist carefully adds color to the raised part of the paper. After the paper has dried, the it is carefully pealed from the wall, and dramatically shows a representation of the ancient carvings.
