Description
Bid for four (4) tickets to Dance Off the Grid on Friday, March 3, 2017 at 8pm at the Emelin Theatre.
Dance Off The Grid celebrates its fourth consecutive season at the Emelin! Each of the three evenings of this eclectic performance series (The New Yorker) features multiple world-class artists and companies surveying the diversity of today's dance landscape. As always, the audience is invited to stay after each evening’s program for a lively and insightful Q&A session with the choreographers and the dancers to learn more about what inspires their work.
This extraordinary series kicks off on March 3rd. Two of the three companies to perform have already been announced and are Raushan Mitchell + Silas Reiner which merges fantasy, absurdity, and quiet contemplation to create a new dance vocabulary, as well as the sensual, articulate, and exquisitely musical RIOULT Dance NY.
Additional artists are still to be announced, so please check emelin.org.
ABOUT RAUSHAN MITCHELL + SILAS REINER
Since 2010 Rashaun Mitchell and Silas Riener have created dance in response to complex and active spatial environments, often merging elements of fantasy, absurdity, and quiet contemplation. Their collaborative work revels in the possibilities of the highly articulated dancing body where current and historical influences and aesthetic forms are collapsed into a hybrid physical and visually charged language. Their work takes many forms, from site-specific installations, improvisational dances, traditional proscenium pieces, to highly crafted immersive experiences. After working together in the Merce Cunningham Dance Company, Mitchell and Riener began collaborating on dance projects which continually push at the unraveling boundaries of dance research, with a keen interest in the way abstraction and representation coincide in the body.
Rashaun Mitchell is a choreographer, performer and teacher living and working in NYC. He is a 2014 Guggenheim Fellow and recipient of the 2012 New York Dance and Performance ("Bessie") Award for Outstanding Emerging Choreographer.
Silas Riener graduated from Princeton University and completed his MFA in Dance at NYU's Tisch School of the Arts. A member of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company he received a 2012 New York Dance and Performance Award (Bessie) for his solo performance in Cunningham's Split Sides.
