2013 Zinfandel, Raptor Rescue, Russian River Valley

Falconry is the ancient at of hunting with trained birds of prey. Falcons play an integral role in the vineyards, protecting the grapes from starlings and other birds. Founder, John Hawley, demonstrates a true partnership between man and bird as he trains and flies birds of prey. A portion of the proceeds from this bottle are donated to support California raptor rescue.

This Zinfandel is grown in the warmest region of the Russian River Valley, just at the mouth of Dry Creek Valley. The inviting aromas of black cheery, wild strawberry and hints of caramel compliment this medium-bodied Zinfandel. Cola and vanilla flavors mingle with a touch of pepper. Very east drinking with a smooth, lengthy finish. Elegant berry aromas and lingering acidity help compose this Zinfandel as an extremely food-friendly wine.

2013 Reserve Petite Sirah, Dry Creek Valley

Petite Sirah is originally a French grape known as Durif, which is a cross between Syrah and Peloursin. However, Durif is pretty much non existent in France today because the climate is not suited to such a late ripening variety. “Petite” refers to the small concentrated berries that produce an inky-dark wine. In California, early Petite Sirah plantings were mostly used as a blending partner. The warm climate and long, dry growing season allow us to achieve optimal ripeness and produce a soft, fruity wine with concentrated flavor and color. This Petite Sirah from our neighbor on Bradford Mountain is concentrated and full-bodied, but also soft with a balanced acidity. As with many of our previous vintages of Reserve Petite Sirah this wine is dark and intense. It shows a wonderful array of fruity aromas focused around dark blackberry and blueberry fruit. As you look deeper you might find undertones of licorice, chocolate, cinnamon and vanilla. All of these aromas are accompanied by a rich mouth feel with silky smooth tannins. This wine is drinking fantastic now! I would not hold this wine for more than five years, for fear of losing some of the wonderful fruit it's showing now. Drink and enjoy.
