Patricia Barr Clarke is a long-time Denver plein air painter and community activist. She is a signature member of the Colorado Watercolor Society and she has been a member of the Denver Art Student League since its inception. She is a board member of The Art Garage, a community art center in Park Hill, where she teaches art classes for adults and children. She paints watercolors on location around the world, most recently in Barcelona, Spain, Tucson, Arizona, and as an invited workshop instructor in Curacao. The mask design was inspired by masks seen at European Carnival celebrations.

“La Serenissima” (The Peaceful One)
This mask design was inspired by masks I have seen in European Carnival celebrations. I sought to give a feeling of harmonious color and serenity. I hand-painted both sides of the mask in water media (acrylic) in a modified harlequin pattern. I used warm colors on one side of mask and cool colors on the other to suggest mood changes. Then, I added a crackle glaze to give an aged look and added a jeweled trim and ribbon ties.
