Description
After graduating with an all-level art education degree, Sue Zebrowski taught middle school and high school art for many years. She has painted in oils and watercolors as well as producing works in stained glass. Her work has been shown in various exhibits in Evergreen, Colorado where she resides. Her subject matter includes portraits, animals and landscapes. She especially enjoys creating art for a cause. “Using your talents to help humanity is truly a blessing for the creative person”, she has stated. “I try to maintain a positive influence through my artwork.” “There is too much negativity in this world already!”
I recently visited my daughter on Hawaii’s Big Island where she lives. The culture and “spirit of Aloha” always amazes me! Therefore, the mask I have created is inspired by that spirit. I have combined my love of Hawaii with some history of tribal art to produce an image of old Hawaii. The materials used on the mask consist of watercolored rice paper with patterns and designs from this tribal art. The patterns were created with marker and applied to the enhanced face. I used air dry clay to create the eyes, nose and mouth. The yarn hair is interwoven onto a leather strip. Shells and beads adorn the mask.
