Imo Lax spent 23 years as an Air Force weather forecaster. Her work is subliminally influenced by the satellite images and cloud formations that she studied. These images are not in the forefront of her mind when she is creating her work, however the weather features and continents seen from space manage to “surface”. Her work is predominately three-dimensional. She enjoys seeing the textures and colors interact, and playing with the shadows that are created by the depth of the textures.

Butterflies speak to me of freedom and life. They do not realize the life they spread, drawn to flowers in the never ending cycle of blossom to fruit. Light reflecting off their wings as they dance from one flower to the next, or floating freely on light currents of air. I cannot imagine a world without their colors and the iridescent refraction of light.
