Sheryl Detert of Larkspur, Colorado is self taught but has refined her skills with college courses and workshops. Her current work consists of pet portraits in both acrylic and watercolor mediums.

This mask is a portrait of her daughter's best friend, Jadzia Dax. Dax was adopted from the Denver Dumb Friends League at the age of 10. Older cats are often overlooked, but the amazing staff at DDFL knew Dax and her Mom were a perfect fit and helped find Dax her forever home. Now at 14, Dax is healthy and happy. She runs to the kitchen when she hears a can of tuna being opened, is still obsessed with the first toy her mom bought her, loves a good sunspot, and enjoys being a couch potato and watching Star Trek (her namesake).
