Description

Judy Gardner is a painter, printmaker, bookbinder, digital artist and self-professed process junkie. She earned a BFA in Graphic Design at Northern Arizona University and a Masters in Humanities at the University of Colorado, Denver. She currently teaches electronic imaging at Regis University and manages Alchemical Eye Studio, where she works as a consultant with artists wishing to incorporate alternative process digital and print techniques into their work. Her personal work explores the foibles of human nature and tends toward a metaphysical point of view fed by her training as a shaman.

I grew up in the Tropics and have always loved the sights and sounds of the jungle. On a recent trip to Hawaii, I shot photos of the jungle growth and the ever present geckos. Using a 3D Cad program, I built the models used to 3D print the leaves, vines and gecko that adorn this mask. The 3D printer used to create these masks is a Plastic Scribbler using an Arduino controller and  open source software. It  is printing with a material called PLA, which is a plastic made from corn starch. Visit www.alchemicaleye.com for more information on 3D printing.
