Description

As a native of Colorado, Kim Gentile first experienced the joy of color as a young child helping her father choose flower bed plantings for the public parks of Denver. He would supply the sketches, and she would fill them with colors chosen from the Crayon box. The results were flowers planted in the colors she chose. Art classes taken in high school and subsequently receiving a degree in Interior Design from the Art Institute of Colorado led to a career in design consulting and developing art programs for local commercial developers.

When selecting art became the majority of her consulting business she knew she needed to better understand abstract art.  She began taking classes in painting from local art schools and programs including Foothills Art Center and the Art Students League of Denver. This continuing education has helped her to realize a better understanding of how the basic elements of design that applied to her interior design training also become the process for developing abstract paintings.

In addition to color, Kim is influenced by atmosphere and the affect it has on how we view our world. The unfocused subject is especially appealing to her which results in paintings that have very soft edges with many, many applications of paint and other mediums.

She feels her work is a statement of how our unconscious becomes our conscious when we pay attention to our peripheral antennae.

This mask represents the style in which I paint abstracts on canvas. Color and influences from nature are usually where my paintings begin. Having just returned from an ocean vacation was a major factor in why these colors and patterns were chosen.
