Description

Laura Lasater is formally trained as a physician in Internal Medicine and has an artistic side that has been buried under years of training and her demanding profession. Her love of working (playing) with clay has only recently resurfaced and is a source of extreme joy for her. Spirituality and Nature inspire her work, and it often centers on animals that show up in dreams with guidance for her. Being able to work with clay is a great outlet for her need to creatively express herself and is a welcome complement to a life that has been dominated by left-brain activities.

While contemplating the clay features of the mask template and inviting them to speak to her, the vision for “Mother Earth” declared itself. Only after the mask was completed did the symbolism reveal itself. This piece represents the regenerative process of life. The fall colors in the leaves of her hair point towards letting go, leaving a clean slate for new things to manifest. This is reinforced by the green peeking out through the leaves and submerged below them, suggesting new growth and the birds gazing upwards as if looking into the future and waiting to fly.
