This mask was painted by Volunteer Coordinator Jacquelyn Howe of the Denver Hospice, her 5 year old daughter Charlotte Howe, and her mother Mary Ann George in honor of her grandmother Harriet Hodges who died of stomach and breast cancer.  Both Jacquelyn and her mother Mary Ann took care of Harriet until she passed in 1998.  Harriet Hodges was born in New York City and grew up in an orphanage as her parents passed when she was a young girl.  She loved to dance to big band music when she was young and met her husband Rodney Hodges when he was in the U.S. Navy.  They married and had a hard life through the depression with 3 children Gilbert Hodges, Mary Ann George, and oldest son William Hodges.  She lost a daughter at birth and always kept on giving her family everything she could as she worked hard in the factories most of her life in NYC.

She was a loving grandmother that is missed daily.  We honor her in donating this mask to the Denver Hospice in her memory as a humble beautiful strong woman that led a wonderful example even when she was ill with cancer.
