About the Artists

Wortman Pottery is the pottery studio of David and Emily Wortman. The pottery is located on a rice farm in Acadia Parish, Louisiana. The Wortman's are strongly influenced by the landscape and food of the Acadiana area.

David grew up in Lafayette, Emily grew up in New Orleans. Except for a couple of years that David went to art school in southern California they have lived there entire lives in Louisiana. The pottery was established in Acadia Parish in 1977.

The Wortman's have been full time potters since 1977. In addition to theri functional pottery the Wortman's create a collection of pottery decorated with crawfish. Also, they create a collection of oyster themed pottery.

Wortman Pottery was awarded the Rural Tourism Success Story award in 2002 by the Louisiana Seagrant College Program.

A visit to Wortman Pottery is much more than a visit to a pottery showroom. Depending on the season a visitor can see rice, soy beans, and sugar cane growing or being harvested. In the winter the fields across Potters Road are flooded for crawfish production making it a great birding location.
