About the artist:

Meryt Harding was born in England and is presently living in New Orleans. She studied visual arts, majoring in painting, at Savannah College of Art and Design and the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. She has exhibited her work nationally. She has been a world traveler for most of her life and feels fortunate to be able to combine her love of travel and the visual arts.

In recent years she has concentrated most of her journeys to Africa where she feels grounded, and inspired. When creating an image she wants the viewer to be touched by the amazing people and places that she has experienced, and wishes to document some of the dress, culture and traditions of these people in our rapidly changing world.

She travels with a camera, sketch book, and a diary to record her senses, experiences and environment. When she returns to her studio she then sees what draws inspiration.

In her 'Mali Market' series she was inspired by the color and patterns of the markets she visited in Mali, West Africa in 2003.
