Description
Laura Scariano Bio:
Laura Scariano is a fifth generation New Orleanian who recently returned home and is now working for Tipitina's Foundation. She has been a clay artist for over 20 years. Laura first studied handbuilding sculptural forms at the University of Pennsylvania. One of her first sculptures from that time "501 Blues" is now sitting at the bottom of a bayou in Slidell just north of New Orleans, due to Katrina.
After college, Laura learned wheel throwing while living in NYC. An enjoyable meditative process by which she produced entirely too many bowls and lamps. She also has learned glaze chemistry and enjoys creating her own glazes. In recent years, Laura has become fascinated with the wood firing process, and has participated in stoking the flames of the fires of renown artist Tony Moore's anagama-noborigama wood fire kiln.
