Description

This is an amazing piece of art created in collaboration with all of the students at our Sparks campus. Special thanks to Alysia Seal and Ayden Kamara.

Here at St. Michael's, our students care about our planet Earth. This year in art class we have been discussing pollution, the environment, and the "Three R's": Reduce, Reuse, Recycle. Since the beginning of the school year the students at the Sparks campus have been saving and collecting their discarded bottle caps in preparation for this project. Our students learned about color theory as they organized the caps into color families and chose color schemes. As we learned about the effects of pollution and littering on the environment, the children also discovered the effect that trash can have on animals. They learned that some animals, like fish and birds, eat the plastic caps and other small objects that are discarded thoughtlessly and it can be extremely harmful to them. When they chose fish as their subject matter, they were creating a reminder to all of us that the creatures of the earth are vulnerable to our trash pollution.
