Description
The Dogtown Tour
Enjoy a beautiful and educational walk in the Rockport / Gloucester woods. You'll visit downtown Dogtown, one of America's oldest ghost towns as well as the Babson Word Rocks—boulders inscribed with inspiring words from the Great Depression. This tour is about 3 miles long, and takes approx. 2 hours. The tour will take you back in time, as you see:
- Remains of Dogtown, a colonial village from the 1600s
- Boulders inscribed with inspiring words from the Great Depression
- Rock formations created by glaciers 10,000 years ago
The Tour is a moderate hike recommended for those in good health due to the rocky terrain and hills.*

For your convenience your tour guide Seania McCarthy can pick you up at your Inn (or other Rockport location). Or if you prefer you can meet where the tour begins.
During the hike there is a break for a surprise historic snack. Complimentary bug spray and walking sticks are provided.
Tour starts at 9 am daily. Please call or email to confirm arrangements and additional information. During hunting season (mid to late Fall), tours are available on Sunday, or by special arrangement.

What to bring: camera, water, snack
What to wear: sneakers or hiking boots, hat, jacket and pants
*Walk at your own risk. Because unforeseen accidents can occur in the woods, guests are required to sign a waiver of liability.
