What is more fantastic than working in the dirt?  Including your children and family of course!

This cutting edge way of seeding was learned from a parent volunteer at Farmer Leo’s Organic Farm in Encinitas.  No nursery will have these supplies!

A special tool called a soil blocker creates brownie-ish blocks of soil.  There is a specific mixture of soil that it takes to form the blocks and keep them bound.  A bag of quick root (as shown in the photos) will do the trick.  The soil is a  perfect growing environment for successful seed starting.  You can get 64 soil blocks in one flat making for an abundance of cut flowers and vegetables!  

Once the seeds have grown into healthy starts you simply plant the soil block without risk of transplant shock or the annoyance of plastic 6 packs you have to squeeze the starters out of.  These blocks make for an easy way to visually layout a plan of your garden.  

Place blocks in garden bed before committing to the ground, move them around and then plant in the soil!  Voila!!  

For those who know, they won’t do it any other way now!  There is no guessing whats coming up in the ground, no crossing your fingers in hopes the seeds you planted will sprout!  Kids will love choosing their own seed, planting in the blocks, watering and watching the success - a sure hit!
