"A Darth Vader grotesque on a church, a giant chair, the longest escalator in the western hemisphere, a faithful replica of the Holy Land for those who cannot make the pilgrimage to Jerusalem, a fence forged from War of 1812 muskets, a yet uncracked cryptographic sculpture …
Far from the crowds and the usual clichés, Washington D.C. is a reserve of well-concealed treasures only revealed to those who know how to wander off the beaten track, whether residents or visitors.
An indispensable guide for those who thought they knew Washington D.C. well, or who would like to discover the hidden face of the city."

I am a Washington native and have long bragged about my city and taken friends on tours. I was astonished at all of the hidden treasures found in Secret Washington DC. The book is an extremely well written, well photographed tour of city that has so much to offer. Ms. Pendana writes in pictures - if you didn't have the photos, you could almost see the items she describes. Each entry is a superbly crafted story. If you are planning to visit DC, pick up this book. It will introduce you to a city beyond the monuments, full of history, intrigue, amazing art and fun. Residents should order this book as well. See how much you really know about your town - then take some time to go explore it. Great guide!

Bravo to Ms. Sharon Pendana!!

As a native Washingtonian,I applaud this book. The descriptions of each

entry are extremely well written in eloquent prose and are accompanied by

captivating pictures. The book can truly stand as a fascinating read versus a

travel guide. I was especially intrigued by the varied and diverse entries.

There is something in this book for all. I encourage everyone to purchase

this book. Whether you are a traveler looking for places to see other than

the headliners that DC is known for or you are a resident of the area and

want to get to know the area better, you will be pleased.

I know Sharon Pendana from her popular "The Trove" blog which is always

highly informative and a look into world of fascinating people. Now she has

done the same thing with Washington, D.C. which is one of the most beautiful

cities in the U.S. Open any page and you will find a gem, its history,

photographs, the best time to visit and special insights. All the things I love in

a great guidebook. From great art to kitsch, from architecture to bathroom

details, if you love the unusual, beautiful, special, and being off the beaten

path, this is the guidebook for you.

I am so excited about this book because Sharon Pendana wrote it, and because

I love secrets. I did not expect such a thick book to arrive in the mail, so this

speaks to Pandana's ability to unearth the most and the best. There is

something here for every age and every interest. I'm sure "Secret Washington

D.C." will encourage many to add D.C. and the entire Capital Region to their

travel itineraries. But more importantly, this pocket-sized guide wide will allow

residents to rediscover their home base daily. A great archaeologial find, if you

will.

I can not recommend this book highly enough. As an avid traveler I have read many travel books

in my time, and this is by far one of the best. I grew up in Washington (although I moved out of

state as a teenager) and there are fabulous and fascinating places highlighted in this book that

I never knew about! Brilliant research and very well written. I enjoyed the beautiful photos too.

If you are even considering going to Washington, for holiday or business, buy this book.

It will be the best investment you make for your trip.
