Description
ECO-CRIME Forensic Science Activity
Description:
HELP! Theres an ecological crisis in Minnesotas wetlands. The anuran (frog and toad) population is dwindling. After volunteers had noted deformities and mutations during local frog counts, the DNR was called in to investigate. At Lake Willow Weep, the anuran population was 80% mutated. The DNR put this environment on Lake Alert, asking concerned citizens to report suspicious activities. After many reports were received of strange vehicles approaching the lake at odd times of the day and night apparently dumping liquids into the water, a full investigation has been declared.
YOU and your forensic science team will need to look at collected evidence to help save this lake and the animals which live there from future abuse. You will use your skills to chart contamination concentrations, to determine solutions by their pH, compare precipitates, scrutinize tire tracks and identify the corporate criminal with the use of chromatography. Will you be able to point the finger at the guiltyABSOLUTELY!
