Postcard From Morocco, by Argento, November 12th – 201th Sin City Opera kicks of their seventh season with Dominck Argento’s Postcard From Moroccoa moving and artful contemporary opera set in an exotic train station in 1914. Skip Galla, SCO Artistic Director leads the cast and story into thoughtful reflection about our motivations and relationships in life. The opera is touted as a masterpiece it exemplifies Argento’s abilities as a composer, “Argento’s Music speaks to his audience with a singular freshness and ardour.”
Eugene Onegin by Tchaikovsky, February 17th – 26th, 2017 Sin City Opera presents Tchaikovsky's tragic drama, 'Eugene Onegin'. Based on the epic poetry of Alexander Pushkin, the story follows the life of Onegin; a world-âÂÂ?ÂÂ?weary, selfish, vain and indifferent hero who becomes a victim of his own pride and selfishness. Director Matthew Kirchner has reimagined this timeless story as set in F. Scott Fitzgerald's, 'Great Gatsby' era of 1925. Calvin Coolidge is President, it is four years before the beginning of the Great Depression and morale in America is at an all-âÂÂ?ÂÂ?time high. It's a time of jazz music, flapper culture and bootleggers. Onegin's journey is a conflict between art and life; a story of rejection, unrequited love, and the inhumanity of social convention.
L’Etoile, by Chabrier, May 12th – 21st, 2017 “The fault is not in our stars,” but in Sin City Opera’s new production of Chabrier’s opera bouffe, “The Star,” the fault may well be found in the stars, or at least in an overconfident astrologer. This exciting, new production takes place beyond space and time, in the realm of King Ouf! It’s his birthday and he expects his usual gift, an execution! Things become complicated when the court astrologer predicts that the fate of the king is directly linked to the fate of the poor, young man who has been selected for execution. The result is a series of comic situations and shenanigans that will keep the audience laughing to the end, while enjoying Chabrier’s brilliant musical composition. Rebecca Morris will be directing this production for Sin City Opera, with some exciting new staging, ambitious sets and costumes to bring “The Star” into the depths of outer space!
