"Hi, I'm Sally Alexander, a passionate mosaicist and teacher from Adelaide, South Australia.

14 years ago I found myself intrigued by the art of mosaicking – that is finding something that is otherwise broken and giving it new life. At that time, I undertook a local mosaic class and quickly became embraced by the fact that you are only limited by your own imagination.

At least, that’s what I thought at that time – to explain, I so loved and believed in this art form that it led me to leave an otherwise well-paying occupation and take a leap of faith to open my own mosaic shop for the purpose of teaching others. I have now owned my mosaic teaching studio Creative Mosaics for 7 years, and as predicted, it has attracted hundreds of students all seeking guidance in their own mosaic journey. The result has been so wonderfully rewarding by way of teaching others, and I often find myself pining for time to mosaic something myself.

Doctors without borders/Medecins Sans Frontiers is such a wonderful cause and has provided me the opportunity to mosaic something myself and in turn donate one of my own art pieces and I feel so very privileged to do so.

I have made this piece, titled Acapulco, as it reminds me of my late Granny's crockery which had very special memories for me. I hope that someone will also enjoy the colours, freedom and peace that this bird encapsulates."
