“I am drawn to stuff people throw away. Discarded materials, damaged, broken and unwanted, inspire me to pick them up, take them back to my studio and have a conversation with them. Eventually, they tell me what they want to be.

This particular piece started with just the stem of the open flower -- the handle of a broken cup that has a lovely mottled glaze and an intriguing spiral at one end. From that 'stem' as a starting point, other bits and pieces in my studio spoke up and said they wanted to join the endeavor. Eventually, this is what emerged.

Red For Remembrance is about the unique wholeness and renewal that can be found when things that have been damaged, broken and discarded join together and grow into something hopeful by acknowledging their past and sharing their future.”
