E. L. Trudeau was a renaissance man, scientist and doctor who, upon finding his own health improved in the Adirondack Mountain air, established the tuberculosis curing industry in Paul Smiths and Saranac Lake, NY. TB was the scourge of the era and E.L.'s own family was not spared. His work to provide state-of-the-art medical care, a sense of community, hope and healing to Tuberculosis patients transformed the region and almost singlehandedly generated the national movement to "take the cure." He was also an avid scientist, eagerly studying the newest developments in microbiology from Europe and building the first laboratory in the U.S. for the research of tuberculosis.
This new biography on E. L. Trudeau is scheduled to be released in August of 2016. By Mary B. Hotaling with foreword by Doonesbury's Garry Trudeau, the book is based on Trudeau’s Autobiography and is a co-publication by Historic Saranac Lake, Trudeau Institute, the Saranac Lake Free Library, and Adirondack Life.
