Opera Australia, Sydney
Walk-On Role at the Sydney Opera House
Value: $5,000
Australia’s national opera company was born when a band of idealists — butchers, pharmacists, newsagents — gave up their day jobs to celebrate the 1956 Mozart bicentenary with a season of four of his operas.
Today, Opera Australia is Australia’s largest arts employer, with annual seasons showcasing the world’s great opera and music theatre repertoire, a touring program staging works in regional Australia, and with performance broadcasts in cinemas and on national television and radio.
Under artistic director Lyndon Terracini, Opera Australia has won the hearts of ever larger and more diverse audiences, giving more than 600 performances for more than half a million people every year.
You will have a walk-on role at the Sydney Opera House with hair, makeup and costume fitting in a performance of La Boheme during the 2017/2018 season. This experience will take place on a mutually agreed upon date from January 1, 2017 to March 31, 2017 OR January 1, 2018 to March 31, 2018 OR July 1, 2018 to August 31, 2018, subject to availability.
Puccini’s La Boheme expresses the way that first love grabs hold of your insides and floods you with something you've never felt before. The first time jealousy flares. The growing up you do in the instant you realize love can't last forever. Puccini takes these achingly human feelings and sets them to music — music that soars with the ecstacy of love, crackles with the pain of jealousy and cries with the agony of loss, set in the bohemian streets of 1930s Berlin.
Valid for one person on-stage and one guest in the audience. The winner will be on-stage with the chorus, but does not sing. Winner will be on-stage only when the chorus is performing. This will likely be about one hour. Exact timing is subject to change.
Participant must be at least 16 years of age. Not all opera productions are suitable for a walk-on role, so the opera will be at Opera Australia’s discretion. The winner must be able to walk up and down stairs on a sloped stage.
Black-out dates may apply. Travel and accommodations are not included. Certificate cannot be resold or re-auctioned. It is expected that the winning bidder and guest conduct themselves appropriately when attending. Polite manners and respect for the donor and adherence to any rules or parameters are a must. To be scheduled for a mutually agreed upon date, based upon availability.
