Description

We will perform Hand in Hand with our brothers in song, Kansas City’s Heartland Men’s Chorus. This unique exchange will feature the area premiere of Tyler’s Suite, a choral work in nine movements with violin, dedicated to the memory of Tyler Clementi, a talented young musician who committed suicide after being bullied by his roommate during his first weeks in college. Many of today’s top composers contributed to the piece including Ann Hampton Callaway, John Corigliano, Stephen Flaherty (Ragtime), and Stephen Schwartz (Wicked) with libretto written by Pamela Stewart.

“The story of Tyler Clementi, the story of the loss of one young man who clearly had so much to offer the world and those who lived and would come to love him, reminds us that every life lost because of bullying and bigotry is a specific individual tragedy. This is why I, and this group of gifted collaborators who have joined me, feel privileged to bring our time, energy and talents to the creation of Tyler’ Suite.” – Stephen Schwartz
