Every neighborhood has a beacon, and for Dogpatch it’s this restaurant owned by Sheryl Rogat and Margherita Sagan. They opened a small cafe in 2006, and five years later, as the area became more vibrant, they took over a Victorian structure, painted it bright yellow and lured in MAC clothing and Dig, a wine bar and retail shop to share the space. Anne Alvero, formerly of Charles Phan’s OTD, is in charge of the kitchen, producing a stellar crisp-crusted pizza; and house-made crackers of sesame, poppy and nigella seeds that go well with the house-pickled vegetables.

There are always several pastas such as pappardelle with Bolognese, and main courses including roast chicken with risotto. Desserts by Michaela Hug-Nelsen are also worth ordering, including zeppole with Meyer lemon curd.
