In Summer 2016, Mary Elizabeth "Mary Liz" McDowell returned to her hometown in Charlotte, NC to design jewelry on her own using the 21st century techniques of Computer Aided Design (CAD) and 3D printing. 

Her experience in textile and apparel design led her to New York City in 2009. She spent the next five years working for David Yurman, lending her talents and energy to both design and product development for the DY Couture Collection. She worked with semi-precious and precious beads and loose gemstones to help create one of a kind signature collections exclusive to the DY stores and VIP costumers. In December 2015 she graduated from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA) in Carslbad, CA earning degrees in Jewelry Design and Technology and as a Graduate Gemologist.
