Description

Join experienced southern Wisconsin birder and River Alliance member Levi Wood in a guided birding trip in Dane County, southern Wisconsin. The trip is redeemable for a group of up to six people from April 20-June 15, 2017, during peak migration, when any number of migratory species could potentially be seen, including 20+ species of warblers (such as Canada and Blackburnian, pictured), vireos, sparrows, flycatchers, shorebirds, and more. Trip destinations will be based upon recent bird reports and interests of winning bidder. Possible trip destinations include the UW-Madison Lakeshore Nature Preserve, the UW-Madison Arboretum, and Cherokee Marsh in Madison; Pheasant Branch Conservancy in Middleton; and Lake Farm County Park, south of Madison.

A spotting scope will be provided, but participants should dress appropriately for the weather and bring their own binoculars, as well as water, sunscreen, and a snack, if necessary.

Levi Wood has led birding field trips for Madison Audubon Society for over 20 years and has helped organize their schedule of over 60 field trips each year during most of that time. He is a life-long resident of Madison and earned his MS in Zoology at the University of Wisconsin with a master's thesis on pine breeding birds of northern Wisconsin. For three summers he was the bird life instructor at the National Audubon Society adult summer camp in northern Wisconsin. He currently leads public nature tours at the UW-Madison Arboretum on a variety of subjects, including birds.
