The 28th Annual Rhinofest kicks off on Saturday, Jan. 21 with The Full Moon Vaudeville, featuring Ian Belknap, The Crooked Mouth, a Marat/Sade sing-a-long, and much more!

Each year, Curious Theatre Branch curates and produces the Rhinoceros Theater Festival, which provides production and exhibition opportunities to hundreds of artists, drawing thousands in attendance each year. The longest-running multi-arts fringe festival in Chicago, the Rhino features works in theater and performance from Chicago companies and national artists alike. First organized over 25 years ago in the Wicker Park neighborhood of Chicago, the Rhino is unique among national fringe festivals in that artists are never charged a fee to participate, and each year our programs are individually curated rather than selected on a lottery basis.

The festival features over 40 new shows! Prop Thtr presents Groundswell by Karen Fort on Sundays at 7 pm, On Loss by Mark Chrisler on Saturdays at 7 pm and 5 cabaret dance performances on Fridays at 9 pm.

Other highlights include new plays and solo pieces by Matt Test, The Runaways, Jenny Magnus, El Bear, Hawkeye Plainview, Beau O’Reilly, Pink Elephant Performance Troupe, Emmy Bean, Tim Bungeroth, Theatre Y, Michael Martin, Penultimate Mohicans, Chris Zdenek, MC Steffen, Eileen Tull, Jewel Hale, Anna Gelman, Alexander Milne and more!

There will be collaborations from Barrie Cole and Robert Metrick, Chloe Johnston and Rachel Claff, John Starrs and Doug Chamberlain, as well as music from The Crooked Mouth, Tricia Park, Carrie Biolo and Maria Formolo.

We will continue last year’s Rhino Lecture Series with lectures and faux lectures from David Isaacson, Ira Murfin, Ryan Wright, Brook Celeste, Mitch Salm, Chris Bower, Amy England, Greg Allen, and more! Keep your eye out for new play readings!
