Description
Meditation is a commonly-used word and concept in today's world. Yet the approach of yoga to meditation is particular and little known. Indeed, in the earliest known sanskrit dictionary, yoga is defined simply as meditation. Meditation is not something separate from yoga. In this course we will examine the connections. We will look at the models given in Patanjali's Yoga Sutra. We will touch on some of the ideas and practices given in the Bhagavad Gita. We will explore in practice as well as in theory. How do we bring these ideas into our own practice and into our yoga teaching in various settings?
Dolphi Wertenbaker MD, physician, yoga therapist and yoga teacher trainer in the tradition of Krishnamacharya, is a long-time personal student of TKV Desikachar. Witnessing his work with patients inspired her to study medicine and pursue a life-long dream of combining medicine and yoga. Co-Founder of Viniyoga America in 1986, she has taught therapeutic yoga since 1985, was an adjunct professor at Columbia University for 14 years, and has taught in numerous yoga teacher trainings since 2007. She is a co-founder and core faculty member of YATNA (Yoga As Therapy North America) and has developed the curriculum for its yoga therapist training.
