Description

Donated by 'Discovery Wines', conveniently located just a few blocks south from the school at 16 Avenue B!

D'Agalis is a mysterious Biodynamic wine (the label tells you almost nothing), made by a perfectionist who offers only two unclassified wines from his Languedoc estate. On a 16-acre property in a small village near Montpellier, Lionel Maurel chooses to work on his own terms. Instead of playing France's AOC games, Lionel said "Yo no puedo mas!" (I can't do it anymore), so he labels his wine simply as Vin de France and does not bother seeking out regional or village classification. Mas D'Agalis XIII is a blend of hand-picked, 50% Syrah, 40% Carignan, and 10% Mourvèdre that's aged 12 months in vats (60%) and in barrique (40%). When sulfur is used, it is minimal.

Flavor Profile: Medium-bodied, dry. D'Agalis has a deep purple color and a distinct nose of spice, black fruit and a touch of barnyard. On the palate the wine is filled with red and black berry fruit, plums and a touch of chocolate. The fruit is well balanced with ripe tannins and ample acidity on the long earthy finish. Pair with roasted red meats and game, casseroles and mushroom dishes. Serve at cellar temperature.
