Established in 1892, the Modern Art Museum of Fort Worth is the oldest museum in Texas and one of the oldest museums in the western United States. The Modern was founded by twenty forward-thinking women when the state was only forty-seven years old. Presently, the Modern holds one of the foremost collections of postwar art in the central United States, consisting of more than 3,000 objects, including important touchstones in painting, sculpture, site-specific installations, drawings, prints, photography, and video.
