Shane Benson, owner of New York Vintners, graduated from Ohio Wesleyan University, and toiled away a few years as an accountant, basketball referee and caterer in Washington, DC.  Shane Benson then packed his bags and headed to the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York. At the CIA, Shane was introduced to the vast and wonderful world of gourmet food and wine.

Working weekends as a private chef in Dutchess County, New York to pay his way through school, Shane was exposed to the world of high finance. Following graduation from the CIA in December 1999, Shane took a day job on the floor of the American Stock Exchange, continued to work weekends as a private chef and immersed himself in the New York City restaurant and wine scene. Shane expanded his wine repertoire working at Italian Wine Merchants and continued to scour the Downtown neighborhood streets for new and interesting restaurants, emerging chefs and novel dining concepts.

Shane has been an investor in a number of successful restaurants and saw the opportunity to open New York Vintners in 2006 as the natural extension of his passion for food and wine. Shane’s idea of the perfect day would be 18 holes at the Old Course followed by a leisurely dinner with wine, conversation and friends.
