Damian Loeb (born 1970) is an artist currently living and working in New York City. Loeb’s works are romanticized transformations of portentously loaded narrative tropes. His creative process is an immersive endeavor; compulsively capturing a lexicon of fleeting moments and then giving the ephemeral the authoritative permanence of the painted image. In creating an empirical sense of reproduction, Loeb invents a dialogue between relativism and individual interpretation; exposing the subjectivity in the cultural codification of emotions and the manipulative nature of our common visual vocabulary. The amalgamation of this emotive language and his fanatical use of classical painting compositions, references, and techniques creates the intimately obsessive gem like paintings he is known for.

(New York, NY, January 11, 2017) Acquavella Galleries is pleased to announce Sgr A*, an exhibition of new paintings by American artist Damian Loeb, on view from March 3 – April 6, 2017. This is the
artist’s fourth solo show at Acquavella, and will feature twelve new landscape paintings, all depicting astronomical objects and events as seen from Earth. This landscape exhibition continues Loeb’s exploration of how our understanding and assimilation of first hand experience is affected by our constant exposure to new media.
