The inspiration for this work:

When I was in fifth grade my parents enrolled me in youth art classes at the Delgado Museum (now New Orleans Museum of Art). Every Saturday morning we children would meet to explore the museum's galleries and then make our own works of art, whatever subject we desired.  I recall one girl in particular who for the entire semester drew only horses.  Never a landscape, still life, or portrait of anything other than horses.  Her passion and singleness of purpose made a great impression on me.  Nearly half a century later I honored that dedication with this painting, Girl who draws horses.
