BAX’s overarching mission is to support artists-in-progress of all ages and throughout all stages of development. In this spirit, BAX has constructed an environment where children study and professional artists create and perform work in the same building.

Taught by professional and nurturing faculty, BAX’s Youth Education Department provides expert instruction in building technical skills in dance, theater, and tumbling with an emphasis on cultivating creative expression. Each year we offer over 45 classes and serve over 1000 students, ages 1-18, in the BAX Building. Our programs encompass five core values — skill-building, creative choice, collaboration, performance, and community – and include a broad range of youth classes, performances and festivals.

Over 1200 young people study dance, theater, tumbling and related courses year-round at our Park Slope studios. Our comprehensive Youth Programming offers a range of creative opportunities for toddlers through teenagers.  Classes strike a thoughtful balance between technical skill and creative expression.  All of our students are viewed as artists and given tools to grow both technically and creatively.

 Playspace: Activities include hoops, tunnels, coloring, balls, books and are with the help of the Playspace facilitator. Children can bring special toys, books, or other childhood comfort items, but must bring their own diapers, wipes, snacks and drinks. Parents must remain on site.
