In her teens and twenties, Marlene Freidenreich Kempner of Radom, Poland struggled to survive and safeguard her family under the torments of Nazi rule. Ultimately, after narrowly escaping death in a series of labor and death camps including the infamous Auschwitz, only she and her younger sister were destined to survive, blessed with the opportunity to begin life again in a new land. "Always Good With a Needle" is Marlene's story, one she summoned the courage to share with us in her 91st year of life, and told in her own words. With each passing year, as the number of Holocaust survivors remaining alive to bear witness to this human tragedy dwindles, the numbers tattooed on Marlene's arm fade with age but never truly disappear.
