Description
"I began shooting photographic portraits in high school, back in 1966. My interest in portraits stayed with me through college and beyond, but in my late twenties I was drawn to other creative pursuits. Thirty years later, in 2007, I resumed shooting portraits in the very same minimalist style I had done before. One of the problems with presenting photographic portraits as "fine art" is that the medium is so literal. Faces tend to be very specific. People want to know who they are. Meanwhile, I just want to tell a story about humanity as a whole, borrowing my subjects' faces as a vehicle for telling that story.
When I see my work translated in Gregg Blasdel's ink prints, a window of abstraction has opened. Suddenly, the image steps from the realm of photography to the realm of fine art."
