Description

American painter Carl Blair has contributed greatly to the field of visual arts in South Carolina throughout his lengthy career. His highly sought-after works have been shown in over one hundred museums, art galleries, and universities and belong in over 2,500 private, public, and corporate collections. After earning his MFA from the Kansas City Art Institute and serving in the Korean War, Blair settled in Greenville, South Carolina in the late 1950s. Mr. Blair served as a professor of art at Bob Jones University for over forty years, taught at the Kansas City Art Institute’s summer program, and was a member of the cooperating faculty at the Greenville County Museum of Art. In addition to his career as an educator, Carl Blair co-founded one of the Upstate’s first commercial galleries, the Hampton III Gallery, and was a member of the South Carolina Arts Commission, serving as chair for two years. He was the 2005 recipient of the State of South Carolina’s most prestigious arts honor, the Verner Award for Lifetime Achievement. Come Dance With Me is a work that exemplifies the uniquely-colored and abstracted landscape paintings for which Carl Blair is known.
