2014 Moscofilero

Moscofilero is a highly aromatic white varietal of Greek origin grown primarily in George Skouras' homeland of the Peloponnese. It is most akin to the Muscat grape and shares similar characteristics of perfumed aromatics and high acidity. This delightful 2014 vintage shows off the grape's inherent attributes quite well with a cornucopia of aromas from fresh cut roses and white flowers like night jasmine, to green apple, shite peach and lemon lime zest. While the aromas are lifted on the nose, the flavors are a bit dialed back yet still very present on the light to medium-bodied palate. It was fermented in stainless steel tanks with very little skin contact and minimal aging, making the wine feel really fresh, vibrant and elegantly cool. It finishes with tremendous acidity and a nice zesty kick. Pairs well with apple-fennel chicken salad or other lighter fare. 

 

2014 Pinot Noir

While this tasty Pinot has plenty of fruit, it also has a good amount of structure with an ever so light grip at the end. This might be a result of the 10% whole cluster fermentation or the minimal 10% new French oak, but regardless, the extra substance sets the wine up for some longevity. The nose offers aromas of ripe cherry and plum as well as enticing baking spices like nutmeg and star anise. The medium-bodied plate continues with juicy, darker red fruit flavors and a silky texture. The wine finishes with vibrant acidity, some appealingly dusty tannins and a hint of pepper. This is a well-balanced, easy to drink Pinot that would pair well with pork and chicken dishes and maybe even a heartier, spicy tomato sauce pasta.
