Special Instructions
According to Mark McDonald, curator of prints and drawings at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and specialist in Goya's "Los desastres", these two etchings most likely date from the 1920s, belonging perhaps to the 5th edition, and are of a very light print. The margins between the drawing and the mark of the plate have suffered a darker decoloration, most likely from exposure to light. The framing does not meet archival standards and it was done so that the etchings could be used for decoration purposes.
However, it must be noted that although the etching from plate 5 does appear to be printed on a hard paper, much like those from the 5th edition, and, according to McDonald, may even be a "smart facsimile", the etching from plate 19 is done on a different paper, ribbed and with a watermark (see photo) indicating that this etching perhaps belongs to a different edition.
This item is sold as is, both etchings framed together.
