Description
This dynamic workshop, hosted for many years at Barnard College Center for Research on Women, now welcomes Studio School families (Adults only please) and extended community. Our approach offers both passion for the observation and writing of poetry and memoir, as well as support for each student’s journey, in each new stanza or paragraph. We seek new ways to open up the voice, bring breath and space to your writing. We encourage risk-taking and careful listening to one another’s work. We’ll also explore the works of historic and contemporary authors and suggest exercises/assignments for inspiration and challenge.
Also: We explore current and traditional forms including prose poems, verse memoir and other “cross-genre” forms. We welcome and have successfully engaged writers of all levels and backgrounds: from graduate students steeped in literature studies-- to physicians, grandparents and educators. The class meets every other week, will get you writing, is offered at a bargain price, and yes, we share information about publication. Most important:
Every poem or story is a gift!
