My name is Lisa “Sprite” Hansen. I’m a self-taught mixed media fantasy artist from a small city in New York. In addition to donating my work for important causes, I teach and host local art party fundraisers for animal rescues a few times a year. Being able to help animals through art has always been important to me! J

I love animals and nature, and have always been inspired by them. Both subjects always appear in my work. Each piece begins with a ball of clay or foil, or a dab of paint, and develops organically from there.

On occasion, a particular image or story of a rescued animal instills an intense desire to draw or paint them. Somehow drawing them helps me connect to and understand them on a deeper level. I'd followed Sanjay's story from the beginning. Seeing him shortly after being rescued looking completely content throwing soil truly filled my heart.

It was as though he knew he was safe and free. It was an honor to paint this beautiful, magnificent creature, seen here celebrating his newfound freedom in a way we can all relate to: With confetti!
