Description:

"Maria the Virgin Blacktip Shark” was designed, carved, and printed

by Derrick and Priyanka. The image glorifies the female blacktip

sharks, known to have given virgin births. A linocut print is made by: first,

hand-carving a design into linoleum mounted on a block of wood; second,

inking the linoleum; and finally, pressing the block onto a printable surface.

About the artists:

Friends Derrick and Priyanka are exploring artistic expression

through linocut printmaking in the San Francisco Bay Area. Both share

a passion for the environment, wildlife, and the arts. In addition to working

on environmental clean up projects professionally, Derrick is a singer,

songwriter, and aspiring fashion designer. Priyanka works with

communities on environmental health issues and enjoys dancing, painting,

photography, and volunteering for Wildlife SOS.
