Description

Gretchen Diebenkorn Grant, one of EB’s founders and daughter of legendary California painter Richard Diebenkorn, will offer revealing insights into Diebenkorn’s art, his deep appreciation for Henri Matisse, and how the great French painter’s influence reveals itself across decades of Diebenkorn’s work. Presented in conjunction with SF MOMA’s Matisse/Diebenkorn exhibit, her talk tells about life with this creative man through personal observations, anecdotes, and insights into what inspired him. After the talk, Gretchen will lead guests on a tour of the exhibit, featuring 100 extraordinary paintings—40 by Matisse and 60 by Diebenkorn—that reveal the connections between the two artists in subject, style, color, and technique.

You won’t want to miss this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to hear behind-the-scenes stories of one of California’s most influential painters.
