BIO |
As a child I watched and listened. I observed people, objects, nature and enjoyed their beauty. I’d spend hours looking at coffee table art books, and I was drawn to poetry.
I began doing photography while in a journlism class in the 8th grade. I was involved in journalism throughout high school and college and taught it, including photography, for a number of years. During that time I focused on people. I still “cover” events for family and friends.
Nature photography is very different. A bit intimidated by it, I took it on in the mid-1970’s when living in Carmel Valley. From black and white film to digital photography has been a journey of learning often from the best, including Al Weber and Ansel Adams in Carmel and Stephen Johnson in Pacifica.
From darkroom to computer, I tend to do very little processing of my photos. I strive for what the eye sees naturally, though the exciting thing about the digital camera is that it actually “sees” better than the eye.
A significant step for an artist is “going public.” In 2004 I entered my first exhibit with fine art images. My whole experience with photography has taken on a new dimension, though I’m still hesitant to call myself an artist.
Some flattering and encouraging comments from people about my work: “It’s reflective and serene.” “It’s a glimpse of something we often don’t see.” “You have a good eye.” “I always find beauty and see something unanticipated in the photos.” “The landscapes give off an aura of serenity that is almost physical.”
And still I am learning! |
