Description
Target Audience: Parents / Guardians
Join History department faculty Karen Bradley & Paul Scott for an interdisciplinary conversation about what differentiates democracies from non-democratic regimes. What protects the former from transitioning into the latter? What are the risk factors for non-democracy? When has it ever happened before? In this 90-minute experience, Scott and Bradley will lead a discussion that explores these questions from a Comparative Politics perspective and a Western Civ historical perspective, with a pinch of journalism thrown in. Experience a friendly Head-Royce Humanities seminar at its best--small and large group discussions; making thinking visible; sharing the floor; listening deeply and developing collective knowledge! You might leave with some new perspectives; you will certainly leave with a recommended reading list.
Karen Bradley, Ph.D. is the History Department Chair and teaches U.S. History, Comparative Politics and Applied Ethics
Paul Scott, a Renaissance Man and Junior Dean, teaches Western Civ/History of Ideas, Islam and Environmental History.
