Description

“Ethel the Gourmet” signed and numbered lithograph (#5855/10179) by Charles Wysocki (1928-2002), a popular and prolific American painter. Ethel is sister to Frederick. They were named after Fred and Ethel Mertz, the neighbors, friends and landlords of the Ricardos on the long-running television show "I Love Lucy." These siblings may have come from the same litter, but clearly parted company on their way to adulthood. Whereas Frederick likes to nap in the library surrounded by the comfort of big ideas, Ethel keeps busy in the kitchen. “No matter what happens,” said the artist Charles Wysocki, “Ethel is there. You bring the groceries home, she’s in the bag. You bring home clothes, she’s in the box. Whatever you bring home, she thinks it’s for her!”

Sold out by the publisher in 1992, this rare piece is only available on the secondary market. Professionally framed in designer matting and frame and protected by ultra violet museum quality plexi glass. From the private fine art collection of the donor.
