Special Instructions

Grapes from the Detert site served as a component in the famed TO-KALON wines during the pioneer days of Napa Valley Winemaking.  Beginning in the 1960s, Robert Mondavi selected Detert grapes for his Reserve and then later for his Opus One wines.   Today, the Detert family crafts a few hundred cases of wine from a combination of 38 and 20 year old Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon vines.

“Detert's 2014 Cabernet Franc is one of the most distinctive wines in Napa Valley today. The Franc is not especially varietal in personality - especially compared to modern versions - instead it is the voice of the site that seems to come through above all else. An exotic mélange of dark cherry, mocha, plum and espresso notes all flesh out in the glass. The 2014 is endowed with superb aromatic intensity, translucency and finesse for such a big wine. Don't miss it.”  95 Points — Antonio Galloni, Vinous

The 2014 Detert Cabernet Sauvignon displays an enticing range of dark cherry, cassis, coffee, savory herb and tobacco aromas. The palate is seductive - rich, dense and concentrated revealing flavors of berry and cassis layered with notes of baking cocoa and hints of black olive. Dense, textured and layered.
