Patricia graduated from the University of Texas at Austin with a major in sociology and a minor in English. She worked for many years as a social worker in Texas before she moved to Hawaii in 1983 to study with many well-known artists. Missler continues to paint and write. She lives in Hawaii with her husband, where they operate their own art gallery and continue to live in a secluded forest on the slopes of an active volcano.
